Targeted Ad’s & Mining Users Data

Have you ever felt that when you talk about something or even think of something you see and ad for it? I’m here to tell you that you’re not going insane. Technology has been moving a such a fast rate it’s gotten extremely difficult to keep up with it.

Let’s say it’s your first time ever owning a smartphone ever, and you’ve completely set it up with facial recognition two-factor authentication, and last but not least you move your contacts over from your blackberry. Now there is nothing on your phone so you open the app store and you are greeted by the top two apps (which have been the top two apps for half a decade) Facebook, and Instagram. Immediately you open the app and click agree to the 200-word contract (what’s the worse that can happen? 3 billion people use the app). You just agreed to sell all of your personal information, such as facial recognition, environment recognition, voice recognition, your contacts, and all of your images. This is before you’ve even created an account. The lack of transparency when it comes to data mining has become ridiculous. I believe that it is very scary to have all of these facts and little nuances of your daily life to be monitored and held forever in a database. With that being said I do not believe that tracking users' data for targeted advertisements is necessarily bad. I believe that it has been extremely helpful for small companies and the safety of people who surf the internet.
